Flexform NY & Doug Meyer : DIFFA 2015

This year at the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) Dining by Design 2015 Flexform teamed up with Doug Meyer from the Doug & Gene Meyer Studio to create The Heroes Gallery. The installation, comprised of  portraits created by Doug Meyer himself, payed homage to fallen artists and designers from the industry who were among the first victims of AIDS and provided a moment of reflection and inspiration for the viewer. The portraits were influenced by medallions, cameos, intaglios, sculpted and carved busts, and were accompanied by historical didactic panels and labels. Some of the heroes include: Angelo Donghia, Jay Spectre, Alan Buchsbaum, Franklin D. Israel, Tina Chow, Leigh Bowery, Jacques Demy, Sam Wagstaff, John Duka and Kalef Alaton.

“This space and these portraits were a labor of love; I hope that by creating this space that some of these innovative pioneers’ contributions and existence will become known to a younger generation of talent,” said Meyer.
